"Christmas Cottage", is an Edwardian granite cottage, located in a quiet traffic-free Terrace (pedestrian access only), in an elevated position. There are many original features that have been preserved, such as the stained glass, and panelled doors. The Hall contains its original Minton’s Encaustic Tiles.
Timber beams are also original and have been stripped and coated with natural beeswax. Although the above features have been retained, the interior of the property is very light and combines modern pieces of furniture within the scheme.
Though there is little view from the ground floor, the main bedroom to the front also has a sitting area, together with window seats where the views that can be seen are breathtaking, whatever the season, of Newlyn Harbour, across Mounts Bay to Penzance, St Michael’s Mount, Marazion and the Lizard Peninsula. Seals can often be seen close to the shore. If you are an early riser, you will not be disappointed at the magnificent sunrise observed across Mounts Bay.
You can watch the fishing fleet leaving and entering the harbour together with yachts, the Lifeboat, and also the ‘Scillonian’ ferry crossing the bay, bound for the Isles of Scilly, as well as the many ships that anchor offshore. Cornish 'gigs' can be seen practicing for the races.
The cottage sleeps 4 people in two bedrooms as follows - 1 double = 2persons, 1 bunk-bed = 2persons. There is also space for 1 baby in a travel-cot, which can be supplied, (providing you book this in advance). (No bedding supplied for cot)
Christmas Cottage can be booked throughout the year, and is the very best in Cornish luxury accommodation, whatever the season! It is an ideal location for either the experienced or novice Marine artist, or those who favour the composition of the rugged Cornish landscape! Equally, artists of all abilities will be unable to resist sketching or painting the magnificent views, or the dramatic sunrise. The area is inspirational for writers and poets. Please note - we do not accept Short Breaks or Weekend Bookings.
